Analysis Of Jonathan Edwards s The Hands Of An Angry God
Jonathan Edwards: A Wrath Within Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God is the sermon that Jonathan Edwards is remembered most for; a sermon in which one is fearfully reminded of the scorching tortures of hell that awaits the unrepentant sinner. Within his sermon, Edwards preaches that those sinners plagued by corruption face a malicious judgment; it was the choice made freely by God alone that an imminent wrath had not yet befallen them. The time for one to repent held no guarantee; if God chose to unleash his hellfire at that very moment, the unrepentant would face an eternity of anguish. Edwards lashes out against the concept of sin in his sermon, stating, ââ¬Å"Sin is the ruin and misery of the soul; it is destructive in its nature; and if God should leave it without restraint, there would need nothing else to make the soul perfectly miserable.â⬠Perhaps Jonathan Edwardsââ¬â¢ obvious abhorrence of sin had a connection to a reason beyond the apparent; the words of his sermo n being directed much more to himself than to his audience. The wrath presented within Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God was due to Edwardsââ¬â¢ fear of his own damnation- he feared having been too late reborn, but more so he feared sin and its masked hold upon him; an overall inability to conquer the beast of his own humanity. Jonathan Edwards was a man plagued by dread, and in this agony of fear, he thus inflicted a terror on others for their own salvation; trepidation being communicated through the words of aShow MoreRelatedAnalysis Of Jonathan Edwards s Sinners The Hands Of An Angry God 1376 Words à |à 6 Pagesthe Hands of an Angry God,â⬠Jonathan Edwards , main purpose was to scare the audience and tell them that they are doomed to spend their lives suffering from God s wrath in hell. Fresh Water free essay sample
The greatest similarity between fresh and salt water is that both are basically the same chemical water, although the contents of other materials dissolved in it differ. Both contain some amount dissolved chemical in it though the quantities vary. Both form different links in the water cycle of the nature. Both are homes to aquatic life. Difference: Salt water contains much higher quantities of dissolved chemicals as compared to fresh water. This higher concentration of chemical also raises the density of salt water above that of fresh water. Plant and animals living in two types of water bodies are different. Salt water is found only as large standing bodies of water. Most of these are in form of seas and oceans, although though some lakes including very large ones considered to be sea also contain salt water. Fresh water is found in standing bodies of water called lakes, as well as running water as in rivers and streams. We will write a custom essay sample on Fresh Water or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Fresh water is available in many other forms such as in rain, and ice caps in the poles and in very cold places. However no fresh water is found in seas and oceans. Fresh water is used for drinking as well as many industrial processes. However salt water is generally not suitable for most of the industrial use except for cooling. On the other hand salt water is used as a source of some chemicals, particularly common salt. Freshwater does not yield any such chemicals. Comparing Fresh water and ocean water, each has their differences. Most notable is animals living in each. The animals that live in the Salt ocean water would not survive in fresh water for an extended length of time. Same holds true for fresh water animals. However there are a few species that have adapted and can live in both. Some Salt water animals have also evolved to live in Fresh water. Humans cannot drink ocean water without dying. The salt in it dehydrates you to the point you die of thirst. In order to drink ocean water you have to desalinate it in one of many ways. Boiling it being one way. Ocean water also contains every natural element on the planet. If we could find a way to mine the water that is cost effective, we would have a lot more resources. Ocean water freezes at 26 degrees F and fresh at 32. While only 6 degrees difference in water terms that is huge. It prevents a vast amount of the oceans from freezing over in the winter, of course global warming has helped with that. As for your comment of only 3% of the worlds oceans is fresh water, it is very true. While there is a lot of surface area of fresh water the oceans are miles deep. The deepest point on Earth is approx 35,000ft below sea level or about 6. 75 miles down. Many of the deepest lakes only hit about 2000 to 3000 ft deep. Also when you compare the surface area of the fresh water bodies comparies to the oceans there isnt much. The great lakes between Canada and the USA contain 20% of all fresh water on the planet. That is enough water to cover the entire USA with 9. 5 feet of water. When compared to the oceans that isnt much. So dont be surprised. Fresh water is lighter than salt water. Therefore, fresh water floats on top of salt water. This principle becomes extremely important when considering the drilling of a well in order to tap into the ground water of any island. The weight of the rain water that percolates into the ground depresses the salt water beneath it forming a profile that has the appearance of a lens. This is called the Ghyben-Herzberg lens. The principle of this relationship was discovered independently by a Dutch scientist named Baden-Ghyben and a German scientist named Herzberg. The underground boundary that separates the fresh water layer from the salt water is not a sharp boundary line. In reality, this boundary is a transition zone of brackish water (fresh/salt mixture). This is caused by seasonal fluctuations in rainfall, tidal action, and the amount of water being withdrawn either by humans or by natural discharge. Fresh water has a density of 1. 0 while salt water has a density of 1. 025. From this, you can see that salt water is slightly heavier than fresh water. The ratio between the two is 41:40. The formation of the Ghyben-Herzberg lens has a profound effect upon the availability of fresh water on an island. This principle essentially states that for every foot of ground water above sea level there are forty feet of fresh water below sea level! The mathematical formula for the fresh to salt water relationship is: hs = hf / es ef where hs is the depth of fresh water below sea level, hf is the depth of fresh water above sea level, es is the density of salt water, and ef is the density of fresh water. Using the common density figures for fresh and salt water the formula can thus be simplified into hs = hf / . 025 Understand that this applies only to fresh ground water that is sitting directly on an intruded body of salt water. It has no meaning on a large island where an inland body of ground water may be confined by layers and dikes of lava rock. On islands that are largely composed of dense lava rock, little if any salt water intrudes very far into the underlying rock structure. It is generally only in shoreline regions that salt water intrudes into the cracks, crevices, and loose rock spaces. On low, small islands that are largely composed of coral or other porous materials, salt water intrusion into the underlying interior is quite common. The drilling or digging of wells on these islands and especially on along the shoreline must be done with care. Going too deeply will penetrate the transition zone and result in salt water infiltration and the contamination of the fresh water in the well. I have seen such a well dug in solid lava rock along the shoreline in the Ka u District on the island of Hawaiââ¬Ëi. This well was located a few feet above the high tide line approximately a hundred feet from the ocean. The opening was rectangular, about 3 1/2 feet wide, and 6+ feet long. On one end a set of stairs had been cut into the rock allowing one to walk down five or six feet to the level of the well water. This well was unused as there are no dwellings or settlements in the immediate area. In fact, the area was considered to be range land where a few head of cattle managed to find enough to eat in this dry, desert-like environment. The size and construction of the well indicated that at one time it may have served a considerable number of people and possibly even an old Hawaiian village. Unfortunately the well had been abandoned and neglected. It contained a fair amount of decaying leaves and grass. There was also a considerable amount of broken glass from beer bottles that had been thrown against the interior sides of the well. This was probably done by shore fishermen who frequented the area from time to time and used the well as a convenient trash dump during evening camping parties. Nonetheless, the well serves as an excellent example of the Ghyben-Herzberg lenss importance to the availability of fresh water in a place where one might think that none can be found. I already had listed some differences of salt water versus fresh water so here are some similarities;

Essay on Democracy Essay Example
Essay on Democracy Essay Example Essay on Democracy Essay Essay on Democracy Essay Democracy is the worst signifier of authorities except all those other signifiers that have been tried from clip to clip Introduction Even though the construct of democracy signifier of administration has long been in being for centuries. it was the outgrowth of state province authorities system which gave birth to the rise and flourish of democracy that we enjoy today. In the modern twenty-four hours. about three quarters of the universe states claim to be democratic. As recognized this signifier of administration may look to be. still it has some built-in defects as a system of administration. Most of the critics of this signifier of authorities claim that democracy is morally corrupt. humanly unjust. economically inefficient and humanly unjust. It is because of this position that Winston Churchill said that. Democracy is the worst signifier of authorities. except for all those that has been tried from clip to clip. Democracy definition Harmonizing to the English Oxford Dictionary. democracy is defined as the system of authorities by all the eligible members of the province or the whole population. One clip US president. Abraham Lincoln. summed up the really kernel of democracy as it being. the authorities of the people. by the people and for the people ( History Place 2012 ) . This of class was an idealist position and in respect to the current system. we can state that the true democracy was merely demonstrated in 1918 when the representation of people act gave adult females the right to vote or they were declared as eligible electors. Before this act passage or reform. democracy in Britain was merely afforded by the rich and in fact up to the terminal of the eighteenth century. merely about two per centum of the population were entitled to vote. Following a figure of critical reforms in the interruption of the nineteenth century. voting rights were extended easy that lead to the apogee of the 3rd Reform Act of 18 84 that saw all work forces geting ballots. This is the clip that we can term as the important bend of event that led to the democracy that we all enjoy today. There are differences to the democratic signifiers of authorities that exist today. In UK. we have the centralistic signifier of authorities where determinations are made in the capital and the local governments are demanded to move harmonizing to these determinations and regulations. In contrast to this. the federal authorities of Germany gives a batch of power to the federal province and this is the same signifier of democracy that is practiced in the United States ( Dobson. 2012 ) Other signifiers of authorities As we know. democracy is non the standardized signifier of authorities that is practiced all over the universe. There are many other options that are evident in other states. For illustration in the democracy of Korea. there exists a totalitarian government. This signifier of authorities is entirely based on political orientation. This political orientation claims the general cogency for all the life facets and frequently tries to replace faith. A totalitarian signifier of administration does non digest any sort of divergence from the known political orientation and any individual who attempts to oppose this political orientation is persecuted. This was of class the signifier that was adopted by the Nazi Germany that led to the political oppositions being persecuted and tortured and besides detained in the concentration cantonments taking to the race murder of the cultural minorities who were in line with the Nazi policy. Even though the autocratic signifier of administration is linked to the totalitarian government. they have no distinguishable province political orientation and they besides grant some cultural and economic freedoms being careful non to endanger their policies. The end that the autocratic government takes as being the most of import is the care of power along with personal enrichment on the cost of the population and the state as a whole ( democracy-building web site. 2005. ) . There are other signifiers of authorities that are evident and the 1 that is of peculiar involvement is the Theocracy signifier of administration that is practiced by the Republic of Iran. This is known as government by God . This is where the functionary policy is governed by godly counsel or by people or functionary regarded as divinely guided. or it is merely pursuant to the philosophy of a specific faith or a spiritual group ( merriam-webster online encyclopaedia 2012 ) . With respect to the UKââ¬â¢s democratic signifier of administration that we have in topographic point. its success can be determined by how the authorities interpret what we as people wants. The recent alterations like the Scots degeneration along with the creative activity of the Welsh assembly sends light that if democracy is for the people. so such constitutional alterations can be termed as built-in and besides successful portion of pattern of democracy. As we said earlier. the actual significance of democracy is the authorities of the people. for the people and by the people. But when the construct of democracy is mixed up with that of administration. this is truly non the instance even though we get the protagonists of democracy feigning to be so. When the people are told that democracy is the regulation by the people. so thatââ¬â¢s a false belief. If there is administration that is over those people. than there exist no authorities or administration by the people. Owing to this statement. the democracies that are adopted by many states for case the western states are in fact oligarchies in every item. But the people who are the chief topics believe that there are free and become apathetic of the same and they do non see any further demand for revolution. The formation that is certainly oligarchy is the 1 that makes democracy to be termed as the worst signifier of authorities like Winston Churchill termed it. Below the statement s that point out the worseness of the democratic signifier of authorities are discussed. Among these are democracy and economic instability and Democracy as a vehicle of pandemonium and lawlessness. Besides the connexion of constabulary force in Canada and democracy will be discussed in inside informations mentioning the chief characteristics of the issue. the advocators of the issue and besides the positions of the issue. Democracy strains Economic instability The frequent alterations of power that follows the democratic construct of transporting a general election after a term period of four or five old ages is a major beginning of economic instability for the states that pattern democratic signifier of authorities. Prior to election. each political party comes out with their pronunciamento of how they will regulate the state. A political party that wins the election may non be the 1 that was antecedently on power. When a new political party takes power they bring other policies that were non the 1s adopted by their replacement. This comes in because the politicians have the thought that they are in power for a limited clip period and so they adopt short term policies that will convey immediate satisfaction for the citizens so that they can win their ballots for the following general election. These policies are adopted even though they could be disadvantageous in the long-run. This means that the democratic states largely will give their short term strivings for the long tally additions. The of all time lifting debt of the UK and Us and many of other democratic states could be attributed to the economic instability that is brought about by short-termism which is the chief defect of the democratic signifier of authorities. These alterations can non merely extremely daunt investings but besides affects corporate and single concerns. hence restricting the countryââ¬â¢s economic growing. The short and limited continuance that a certain political party takes power besides leads to short term policies. This adversely affects the economic system of the state. The free market economic experts like Milton Friedman believed that democracy produces inefficient economic systems. These economic experts argue that if the authorities were to do effectual economic systems. they need to do what is by and large regarded as unpopular determinations. for case mass denationalization ; taking the rights of the workers and besides deregulating particularly a clip like this of economic asceticism. This illustration is the 1 that is termed as governing paradoxââ¬â¢ ( Flinders. 2010. p. 311 ) . Largely. this is what is seen as built-in contradiction between capitalist economy and democracy in that. as economic agents. all persons are expected to move in their ain involvement but when it comes to projecting their ballots. they are expected to move in the involvement of the society. The critics are possibly rights when they say that democracy can take to ineffective authorities. This can be traced many old ages ago when Aristotle started set uping typologies and categorizing political systems. Harmonizing to him. democracy was a pervertedââ¬â¢ signifier of administration or regulation by many. Democracy as a vehicle of pandemonium and lawlessness The ancient great minds and philosophers like Plat. Machiavelli and Thomas Hobbes were really critical on the defects that come by with the democracy signifier of administration. They saw the construct of democracy as an limitless freedom and autonomy for all which is a tool of use that can climax into pandemonium and upset in the society. Despite democracy being the most popular signifier of administration in todayââ¬â¢s universe. this signifier of authorities is prone to the use of wild politicians and other stakeholders who are out to utilize it as a tool to get power and roll up the countryââ¬â¢s wealth for their selfish involvement hence create lawlessness and pandemonium to the society as a whole. For case. Tomas Hobbes saw democracy as a signifier of authorities that permits foolhardy autonomy that will normally sabotage the jurisprudence preservation and the social order. Most of the politicians normally will work the hostility between the economic categories and the un similarity in the cultural groups to turn them into ballots for their political parties. Democracy can be said to be a pluralist system of power distribution that is set to administer power among the many and diverse viing groups even though non every bit. Even if democracy can be said to be somehow worse. it achieves a greater degree of political equality amongst the citizens than any other signifier and hence reflects the cardinal belief that all persons or worlds are all born equal and so the consent of administration should arise from the governed ( Dahl. 1998 ) . In add-on. this signifier of authorities allows persons to protect their ego involvements. The nature of worlds dictates that each and every person desires some control over their demands and wants and John Stuart Mill said that the ability to protect 1s involvements protects us from immorality in the custodies of others. The competition that exists between different groups of people within the society is precisely what differentiates democracy from dictatorship. As it was argued by ( Flinders. 2010 ) . Dif ference is good . The treatment and argument along with the exercising of the right to freedom of address act as the pillars upon which democracy is formed. Inherently. democracy is a system of rights. By definition. democracy grants both civil and political rights to the citizens so that they can to the full take part in the democratic procedure. Inherently. democracy is a system of rights. By definition. democracy grants both civil and political rights to the citizens so that they can to the full take part in the democratic procedure. So as for all the citizens to take part and hear the voice of their people. it is so really critical to allow these citizens the right to the freedom of assembly that is non provided for in the totalitarian nor in the important governments. The belief of equality is besides one of the edifice pillars of democracy and therefore implementing and set uping the rights gives this a greater grade of equality than any other non-democratic signifier of authorities. In fact. allowing these rights helps shield the minority from persecution and besides let them to besides protect their involvements. The society that we are in these yearss is made up of heterogenous groups. all which represent different and varied involvements ; all these must be respected and recognized. If we do non detect this. we will evidently be perpetrating ourselves to govern by an elite or selected few who think that their involvement are over those of the other people. The constabulary force and democracy in Canada In Canada. the usage of constabulary force and force has become one of the greatest concerns to the society. Many civilians and pupils are going more concerned about the force that is applied by the constabulary in most brushs with the citizens in different state of affairs. Following some of the bad encounters the people had with the constabulary officers. many people are now be givening to believe that constabulary in most of the clip act to strip the people their constitutional rights and hence they are go againsting the regulation of democracy. The critics say that constabulary sometimes employ much power to the civilians by usage of force and force. On the other manus. the advocators of this say that the constabulary are entitled to utilize any power to halt offenses and besides procure the peopleââ¬â¢s well-being. For old ages the force and force that has been used by constabulary officers and the local authorization in Canada has been non merely of major concern but besides a important issue that has to be addressed for democracy to be realised. It all commences when a constabulary officer abuse the powers that has been delegated to them by the province and fundamental law. In Canada. it has become obvious that each twenty-four hours in and twenty-four hours out at that place must be a instance where a constabulary officer has employed inordinate power to the civilians. As the literacy degrees are increasing all twenty-four hours. people are going more cognizant of their democratic rights and the voices are going united day-to-day. The governments and the officers are in topographic point to protect. aid and advance safety in communities. There many people who are registering ailments daily against the constabulary officers who are doing force and utilizing unneeded force during apprehension. In many cases in the metropolis. we have seen how two or three constabulary officers beat up a defenceless citizen utilizing their wands or how they mistreat adult females and adolescents. These are all the instances that are act against democracy of whom the people should be basking. owing to the fact that this is a regulation for the people. for the people and by the people. The heightened engineering and the media has promoted the consciousness that the constabulary are climaxing force by mistreating their powers. This has created fright and misgiving by the people towards the constabulary sections. In conformity to the penal jurisprudence guidelines. the constabulary are merely justified to utilize force that is merely necessary to forestall homicide or a offense. The advocators The advocators for the constabulary use of power and force term the constabulary as an armed force for engagement and protection. They declare the power of the constabulary by them being armed forces ; so. they demonstrate their power by saying protection and show their community connexion by saying that they participate. First these officers have the delegated power by their arm that they carry and the ability that this arm has to do other people to follow to the jurisprudence. They argue that. by the fact that constabularies have been given the authorization to protect ; they must in any agencies pursue this end even if it means usage of inordinate or unneeded powers. Finally. the engagement construct emphasizes the relationship between the officer and the community. To guarantee that the communities are safeguarded efficaciously. they are free to utilize any power whether it means to strip a individual his/her constitutional rights or non. How we can better democracy on this issue The constabulary officers besides being one of the citizens. they should endeavor to function the communities they are in with their best involvement at bosom while safeguarding the democratic rights of the civilians. The constabulary officers are the functionaries that are mandated to enforce the Torahs while continuing order in the society and they should non move in a mode that may climax force or in any instance deprive any single his/her democratic rights. In the instances that the constabulary officers are called into some nerve-racking and unsafe events that may affect violent affraies. that must be controlled. We as the citizens besides do non desire to see our streets run by felons who terrorize other people. It is true that in some instances police officers are allowed to utilize force but non in all the state of affairss or self created state of affairss geared at hassling a civilian or striping him/her his/her democratic rights. Analytic Commentary- The analytic commentary will be a succinct Essay
Analytic Commentary- The analytic commentary will be a succinct evaluative piece of writing which identifies the main features o - Essay Example Such alarms have been associated with problems such as the wearing away of suitable play areas (Rivkin, 1998); the growth in ââ¬Ëstranger dangersââ¬â¢ (Valentine & McKendrick, 1997); the shift towards more home-centered leisure activities founded on television and video games (Clements, 2004); and the growth in childhood obesity (Ebbeling et al., 2002). At the same time, concerns have been communicated about the perceived over-formalization of childrenââ¬â¢s early educational experiences. Unsurprisingly, then, early years teachers are now being asked to initiate a more experiential, play-based approach to learning which integrates a greater use of the outdoor environment (DfES, 2007). One way in which schools are supporting childrenââ¬â¢s play and learning in the outdoor environment is through participation in ââ¬ËForest Schoolââ¬â¢. Forest School has been defined by the Forest School England network as: An inspirational process that offers children, young people an d adults regular opportunities to achieve, and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland environment. (Murray, & Oââ¬â¢Brien, 2005) The university that was visited for the Forest School is known for its open space that comprised of places where children could freely move and participate in various physical activities. It included areas where children with the help of their imagination could create stories that would help in the development of cognitive abilities, spaces that would protect from rain and sunlight, provide opportunities for challenges and contact with nature. Numerous researches have supported the advantages of learning in the natural environment and maintained that children need to play, to experience space, movement and sensory stimulation for healthy development (Knight, 2009; Maynard, 2007). The Forest School experience endorses sensory child-led outdoor play, supporting and stimulating curiosity and absorption. Wilso n (2008) indicates that the natural world along with its amazing rich sources of sensory stimulation, offers countless opportunities to experience beauty. It can therefore serve as a perfect source for aesthetic development of children. The present environment provided children with a range of opportunities for natural sensory experiences which is also illustrated in form of photographs in Appendix A. The components of nature were discovered through dynamic activities focusing on the wonders of nature felt through the senses (Forest School Norfolk, 2009). The sense of smell was experienced through flowers, soil and wood that were discovered in Forest School. The sense of seeing was fulfilled by the colors of nature, variety of insects and plant life. The colourful insects at the site greatly attracted the children as one of them even asked if he could touch the centipede to have a close look. Similarly, various textures such as smooth grass, barks and gravel path offered stimulus fo r their sense of touch. In addition, chirping of the birds, quacking of the ducks, snapping twigs and moving water provided stimulus for their auditory senses. On the other hand, the sense of taste was fulfilled by providing children with hot chocolate and biscuits for snacks. The environment provided inspiration for all senses including visual, auditory and

The five key theoretical relationships among spot exchange rates, Coursework
The five key theoretical relationships among spot exchange rates, forward exchange rates, inflation rates, interest rates that result from international arbitrage activities. Critical analysis - Coursework Example The effect of arbitrage on demand and supply is to realign prices so that no further risk-free profits are made. In international monetary and foreign exchange markets, arbitrage takes three forms namely; locational, triangular and covered interest arbitrage. Locational arbitrage occurs when the bid price of a bank for the same currency is higher than another banks selling price. On the other hand, triangular arbitrage occurs when the exchange rate quote is different from the calculated rate from spot rate quotes. Similarly, covered interest rate capitalizes on interest rate differential between two countries while covering the risk of exchange rate. It exploits the relationship between forward rate premiums and interest rate differentials. The arbitrage activities result in five theoretical economic relationships that explain the connections among prices, interest rates, spot exchange rates and forward exchange rates. The relationships are; purchasing power parity, Fischer effect, international Fischer effect, interest rate parity and forward rates as unbiased predictors of future spot rates (Werner and Stoner, 2010). It is a theory that determines the adjustments required in the currency exchange rates of two countries, to make them in equilibrium when their purchasing powers at that exchange rate are equivalent (Lyhagen, Osterholm and Calrsson, 2007). In other words, the expenditure on a particular commodity ought to be the same in both currencies once exchange rate takes it into account. For instance, suppose one US Dollar is selling at 120 Japanese yens. In the United States, say a baseball bat is selling for $50, while in Japan the same bat goes at JPY 500. Then it means the bat will cost only $10 if bought in Japan. It is advantageous to purchase the bat in Japan and consumers will show preference to the low cost. In the event of

Does A Significant Correlation Exist Between Academic Persistence And Dissertation
Does A Significant Correlation Exist Between Academic Persistence And Student Demographics In An Accelerated Adult Education Program At Not A For-Profit Christian Liberal Arts University - Dissertation Example The research includes related literature. According to the authors Becker and Andrew, adult learners encounter several barriers in their quest to achieve an education. They argue that the barriers encountered range from situational, institutional along with the dispositional barriers. They continue to explain that situational barriers occur due to the adultsââ¬â¢ situation, which could include his job responsibilities, the lack of ample free time along with their childcare tasks. Institutional barriers are described by the authors as those barriers, which are imposed on the adult learners by the institutions. This could include issues such as sensitivity to their staff members, restrictions on the number of hours they work or the inadequacy of research information. Finally, the authors describe the barriers of disposition as those barriers, which are internal and come about due to feelings of alienation among adults in campuses. Other researchers on the same have suggested that in order for adult learners to overcome the situational barriers that greatly hamper their activities and decrease their enrolments, most campuses have introduced degree programs that are not part of their traditions. These programs are described as those supple programs in which adult learners can enroll. They use techniques such as learning during weekends, distance learning and accelerated methods of delivering their required content to adults who have enrolled for various courses (Holland, 2010). Age and Academic Persistence According to previous research carried out by Adelman (2007), the number of available undergraduates between men and women was roughly equal in the years between 1900 and 1930. The adult male enrolment following the second global war increased due to the enactment of the bill known as GI. Women participation was augmented from 39% to 68% in the years 1959 to the year 2002, and as at 1970, adult men aged from 40 were receiving more degrees when compared to wome n (Adelman, 2008). According to Alderman, the current reason why adult women are enrolling for the educational programs on offer than men is that they had outperformed them during their days in high school. This is in terms of the records they achieve in their tests, scores and their prior preparation for college (Alderman, 2008). The studies finally imply that women aged above 40 years had tremendous gains in the year 1972 when they augmented their achievements in various tests. This greatly helped in reducing the gaps in their knowledge of mathematics and increasing their reading advantages (Baum and Payea, 2009). Because of these improvements and changes in the communityââ¬â¢s attitude towards women, their role in marriage and the job place has changed (Adelman, 2007). This has in turn enabled the women to have greater financial freedoms thus motivating the other women around the globe to join colleges despite the fact that they might be older (Baum and Payea, 2009). Creation of programs to cater for the barriers that affect adult learners and their preferred learning styles has been introduced to respond to the problems brought about by the traditional degree programs on aged adults. There is a decline in the number of students joining post high school education and those who fail to complete their education. The number of the students who do not complete their ed

The Hondas Internationalization Process Business Essay
The Hondas Internationalization Process Business Essay Honda Motor Company, Ltd is the most prominent automobile company of japan. It stepped into the Japanese market in the 1949. It has the greatest market share in the global market. It is the major manufacturer of motorcycles. The companys major branch is headquartered in Tokyo .In the beginning, the company was just a manufacturer of motor bikes but started to sell the automobiles and lawn mowers after all the competitors. The success of the company is because of their strategies; the company makes the product for the markets where they are demanded. The founder of Honda, Mr. Soichiro Honda implemented his mechanical and commercial ideas to the company and this is his struggle that made Honda, a big success. A Honda motors is serving the market of 33 countries at present with its long-lasting manufacturing facilities.( Honda, 2013) Hondas Mission Statement The mission statement of Honda is to maintain a standard of quality and deliver highest quality products at a rational price to satisfy the customers. ( Honda, 2013) Hondas Vision Statement The vision of Honda is to create an organizational culture to achieve the goals and strengthen as the unbeatable brand and the best manufacturers of motors. Organizational Leadership Style The first leader of Honda was the person who founded the company, Mr. Soichiro Honda. The research has shown that Mr. Honda was an innovative leader and he always encourages the employees to increase their production efficiency. He was a transformational leader. He always promoted a culture of communication between the managers and employees in order to accomplish the objectives of the organization. All the employees at the company are enthusiastic and make up a successful team.( Hunt, 2007) The company follows the concept of transformational leadership. Hondas Internationalization Process The internationalization means to expand the business on global level. Honda proved itself as the most successful producers of cars on the global level. In 1959, Honda started its process of internationalization by having a subsidiary in United States, the Honda motor co. ltd. Honda in japan manufactured the cars and they were exported to its subsidiary. Honda was late in introducing its automobile industry and this made the company to face many problems in the market of Japan. ( See Appendix 1). The import from japan was restricted afterwards and then the Honda Company initiated Honda of America Manufacturing in 1981, although the parts of cars were manufactured in japan and the assembling was in US. Honda started to export the cars to other countries as well and introduced its products in the international market. In the 1980s, Honda recognized that it has strongly captured the market of United States and then the company took ahead its concept of globalization to the idea of inter nationalization. The objective was to have more market share and to cater different needs of different customers in a better way. The management of Honda decided to divide its market in five regions. These regions include North America, Europe, Middle East Africa, South America, Asia Oceania and Japan. Honda Regions And Subsidies Year Honda Regions and Subsidies Year Japan 1949 Middle east Africa 1970 North America 1965 South America 1959 Europe 1962 Asia Oceania 1974 The Situation in the Host Companies The Honda products have come up with success in most of its host countries. When we talk about US, there are two types of views that are expressed about the Honda Company in the market. Some people think that it had a bad impact on the domestic automobile market of US and some people consider it as a good deal. According to Richard Pascale, Honda had intended to protect an uncertain share of the traditional US motor-cycle market (1995).Contrary to this, the Honda products were failed to be accepted by the Europeans because the local companies were providing a higher quality at a cheaper price. The sales of Honda in Europe were 11% of the global turnover in the early 1990s as compared to Japan (33%) and the North America (43%). Honda is willing to spend about $40 million and wants to appoint 300 employees to increase production in Greensburg, Ind., as its North American operations have a big role in the global strategy of the company. ( Global automakers, 2012) Internationalization Strategy of Honda The company made the subsidies more independent from the parent company. All the subsidies were responsible for their own profits, manufacturing and RD. this was because of a difficulty to determine the taste of all the customers while sitting a single country. The company designed a strategy to make independent RD in all the regions i.e. Honda Research of America in 1984 to produce the cars that will satisfy the needs of the customers. It was very expensive to make products according to each strategic state, so Honda developed a strategy of platform for the automobiles. According to the strategy it established a common development center where the product was modified in accordance with the taste of the market of that region and to satisfy the customers. To control the increasing cost, Honda changed its manufacturing approach from the classical Ford Manufacturing System to the Lean Manufacturing System to compete with its internationalization strategies. At present, the Honda Compan y is promoting the concept of Green Technology to cater and satisfy the customers around the world. Honda Company has an effective international strategy according to which all the regions will have independent relationships to enhance the trust factor. (Mair, 1998) The corporations should contribute a part in the transfer of the technology. Hondas overseas strategy consists of the four localizations: Localization of products Localization of profits Localization of production Localization of management The localization of products which means the products should be produced and marketed on the basis of the needs of the customers of that particular region and the RD of the company should conduct research to increase the level of efficiency in the production. The localization of profits means to reinvest the profits in the company as much as possible. The localization of production refers to the concept that the company should not depend on the products that are exported; it should also conduct the production activities in the region to contribute in the development of the company. The last localization is the localization of management that refers to the practice of promoting the collaboration and communication between the management and the employees in order to achieve the international targeted common goals in an effective way. New Mission after Internationalization: The mission after the internationalization is to maintain an international market and supply highest quality products at a rational price to satisfy the customers all over the world. New Vision of Honda The vision of the Honda Company is to prove itself as the best and most efficient manufacturers of automobiles and motors in the world. COMPETITIVE STRATEGIES AND COMPANY ASPECTS It would be beneficial for the corporation to form strategic alliances with the other local corporations of the host country in order to be successful. It will pave the way for its progress and development. Moreover, the increased emphasis on delivering the high quality automobiles to the customers would assist the corporation in capturing the more market share. Furthermore, it would be advantageous for the corporation to enter the Asian markets due to the increase in the population there. It will help them in earning the optimal proceeds.

Flaws in the Efficient Market Theory :: Economy
Flaws in the Efficient Market Theory According to the Efficient Market Theory, it should be extremely difficult for an investor to develop a "system" that consistently selects stocks that exhibit higher than normal returns over a period of time. It should also not be possible for a company to "cook the books" to misrepresent the value of stocks and bonds. An analysis of current literature, however, indicates that companies can and do "beat the system" and manipulate information to make stocks appear to perform above average. An understanding of the underlying inefficient "human" factors in the market equation is necessary in order to account for the flaw in Efficient Market Theory. Efficient Market Theory: A Contradiction of Terms Efficient Market Theory (EMT) is based on the premise that, given the efficiency of information technology and market dynamics, the value of the normal investment stock at any given time accurately reflects the real value of that stock. The price for a stock reflects its actual underlying value, financial managers cannot time stock and bond sales to take advantage of "insider" information, sales of stocks and bonds will not depress prices, and companies cannot "cook the books" to artificially manipulate stock and bond prices. However, information technology and market dynamics are based upon the workings of ordinary people and diverse organizations, neither of which are arguably efficient nor consistent. Therefore, we have the basic contradiction of EMT: How can a theory based on objective mechanical efficiency hold up when applied to subjective human inefficiency? As a case in point, America Online (AOL) offers a classic example of how investors can be misled by a company that uses the market system against itself. AOL, up until early November of this year, used an accounting system that effectively "cooked their books" and provided misleading figures on the company's performance. Instead of accounting for its promotion expenses and costs as a regular expense, as normal companies do, AOL spread them over two years. This let AOL report annual profits based on revenue figures derived from denying actual expenses (as cited in Newsweek, November 11 edition). By deferring those costs, AOL over the years reported profits $385 million greater than they would otherwise have been. The company then used these non-existent profits to promote itself as a money-making opportunity for both stockholders and potential investors, artificially increasing its stock prices. This accounting practice is perfectly legal, but the information was kept private for over two years. The company has recently announced that, effective immediately, promotion expenses will be charged to earnings as the expenses are incurred, the way a normal company does. AOL will also take a one-time special charge of $385 million for the

Does Gatsby love Daisy Essay
Does Gatsby love Daisy or the aura of wealth that she owns? The Great Gatsby is F. Scott Fitzgeraldââ¬â¢s masterpiece about various themes such as class, love and wealth. One of the themes highlighted is romantic affair between two main characters: Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan. Gatsby is clearly obsessed with Daisy, however, it is doubtful that those strong feeling is a proof of love. This essay advocates that Gatsby does not love Daisy but the wealth she symbolizes. Firstly, wealth is the origin of Gatsbyââ¬â¢s obsession with Daisy. Gatsby believes he is ââ¬Å"the son of Godâ⬠(Fitzgerald 105) and struggles to civilize himself into a wealthy man. When he is a poor soldier, he meets Daisy, ââ¬Å"the first ââ¬Ëniceââ¬â¢ girlâ⬠he has never met (Fitzgerald 158). Throughout the story, it is found that she is ââ¬Ëniceââ¬â¢ because she is ââ¬Å"the golden girlâ⬠with the voice ââ¬Å"full of moneyâ⬠(Fitzgerald 128). Gatsby equates Daisy with luxurious things around her (1) and ââ¬Å"[is] overwhelmingly aware of the youth and mystery that wealth imprisons and preserves, of the freshness of many clothes and of Daisy, gleaming like silver, safe and proud above the hot struggles of the poorâ⬠(Fitzgerald 160). He is attracted by her beauty but that beauty is also a gift of richness. From the beginning, the trigger of his love for Daisy is merely his worship of Daisyââ¬â¢s wealthy life. Moreover, Gatsby nurtures Daisyââ¬â¢s love for him by showering it only with his wealth and success. He throws lots of big parties to attract Daisyââ¬â¢s attention. Additionally, after five years being separated from Daisy, what Gatsby worries about when he meets her is not whether she misses him but whether his mansion looks well and the first place he wants her to visit is his splendid house (2). He keeps showing off his belongings and asking Daisy to check whether she is impressed. When ââ¬Å"he [revalues] everything in his house according to the measure of response it [draws] from her well-loved eyesâ⬠(Fitzgerald 98), it is clear that Daisyââ¬â¢s recognition of his achievements concerns him the most and Gatsby overestimates the importance of material passion in his relationship with Daisy. In the end of the story, when Gatsby is willing to scarify his life-work and fame to save Daisy from being a murderer, this event is argued to be an evidence of love. However, as he desires her in the same way he is in pursuit of the glory of success and Daisy is only a supreme object helping him to strengthen his achievements, the act of protecting her is merely to protect the thing he longs for in his whole life. To conclude, passion Gatsby has with Daisyà cannot be called love. His emotional obsession with her results from his mental obsession with material life. Besides, in Gatsbyââ¬â¢s belief, Daisyââ¬â¢s love is kept in existence by his giant property and what he does is just feed this love with money. Works Cited Fitzgerald, F. Scott. The Great Gatsby. Fetal Pig Lab Report Essays
Fetal Pig Lab Report Essays Fetal Pig Lab Report Paper Fetal Pig Lab Report Paper The Physiological and Anatomical Similarities of the Human and Petal Pig Body Abstract Through the dissection Of the fetal pig, we were able to compare and contrast the structure and functions of the organs to those of a human. We dissected the pig and observed all the exterior and interior Structures. We found that because both are mammals, the fetal pigs structure was almost identical to the human body. Intro Since humans and pigs are both mammals, it can be very useful to study the fetal pig. We dissected the pig so that we should see the skeletal and organ structures hat we learned about in class. Because pigs are also mammals, their structure is very similar to our own. By doing the dissection, we were able to physically see and touch the anatomy of the mammalian body rather seeing it solely in text form. This gives us a better idea of how the structures are intertwined to form the body as a whole. Methods Before even starting the dissection, we had to examine the outer portion of the pig, We started our observations around the head, looking at the mouth, ears, eyes, and snout. : Then we started the actual dissection by cutting a vertical line along the long axis of the body, a horizontal line immediately posterior to the front legs and anterior to the hind legs. You had to be careful when using the scalpel so as not to piece any underlying organs. We flapped the skin back and pinned it to the dissection pan and cut through the ribs to reveal the organs underneath. We looked thoroughly at the oral cavity, respiratory system, and digestive system. Results Oral Cavity: The pig has a hard palate, located at the roof of the mouth, used to id the process of breaking down food. It has teeth that are pointed and sharp so that it can tear its food to be digested. The tongue obviously allows for taste and also helps to direct the chewed food to the esophagi, which connects to the digestive system, The epiglottis is a small flap that covers the glottis, which leads to the larynx, and it makes sure that food does not enter the respiratory system. Respiratory System: The larynx leads down into the trachea which divides into tuft bronchi. Each bronchi connects to a lung, Posterior to the lungs is the paragraph, a muscular wall that divides the thorax from the abdomen. Digestive System: The digestive system continues from the esophagi into the stomach. The liver is found posterior to the diaphragm and it secretes bile to help emulsify fats from the food. The bile goes to the fall bladder through a series of ducts into the duodenum. The pancreas, which is hidden by the stomach, secretes enzymes such as amylase. The small intestine continues the digestion and nutrients diffuse through its membrane and into the body. The large intestine deals more With water and Other fluids. Discussion The objective of this lab was to observe the fetal pig both anatomically and physiologically. We wanted to compare and contrast what we know about the human body with the observations seen in the dissection. We also wanted to reinforce the teachings we learned in class. After dissecting the pig, we noticed that most everything in the pig is also in the human body, Dissecting the fetal pig gave us a hands-on experience of how the mammalian body works and also a view of its structure. The only significant difference that we could find was that the pig did not have an appendix like a human does. Instead, they only have the scum. In the pig, the scum provides the same benefits as the human appendix, found this interesting because many people used to say that the appendix was essentially a useless part of the body. After dissecting the pig, it is easy to see why people would have thought that. Since the pig is fully functional without an appendix, it would be interesting to research further how humans developed one and why it is necessary to our body.

How to Write a Comparative Essay
How to Write a Comparative Essay How to Write a Comparative Essay A comparative essay is also known as a contrast essay. Writing a comparative essay means that you have to compare and contrast two topics, theories, subjects, figures, etc. The topics can be very similar or vice versa and have nothing in common. For example, you might be assigned to compare economic indicators between two countries or two companies, two different political parties, two literary texts or events, etc. Foundation of a comparative essay Analyze the topic you need to compare. In writing a comparative essay you have to find grounds of comparison by identifying similarities and differences on the topics. For example, if you have to compare two identical economic indicators of two countries or companies, first you can compare their size, their market share and policy. How is the policy of the two companies or countries differ? What is the reason one of the companies has better developed indicators than the other? In short, when writing a comparative essay you have to outline, or to draw out the similarities and differences of the topics which you are going to discuss. Preparation for writing a comparative essay It will be very useful for you to create a list of the similarities and differences you have found out. This list will help you form and write your essay in a well-organized and logical manner. Thesis in a comparative essay Once you have outlined and written down (in a plan) the differences and similarities of the chosen topic, you have your contrast; i.e., comparison. Then you should decide which one will outweigh more. If you think that similarities are bigger than the differences, write and prepare your comparative essay in that manner. The best scenario, however, will be if you write your comparative essay on both similarities and differences. This will give your essay a more neutral and sophisticated look and feeling. A well-developed thesis is the basis of writing a comparative essay. Structure of a comparative essay You have to distinguish at least five different paragraphs in your essay. Each paragraph must contain evidence supporting your thesis. One way of writing the comparison essay is to write about two topics simultaneously for each point of comparison and contrast. This is the so-called alternating pattern or point-by point comparison. The other way is to first write about one of the topics and after that proceed with the others. This is called subject-by-subject comparison or block pattern. Useful tips on how to write a comparative essay Introduction is very important. In the introduction part grab the readerââ¬â¢s attention; therefore, it is good to have a strong opening sentence. One of the ways to have a strong introduction is to give a short historical review of the topic, explain why and how things have happened; this way the reader will feel more attached to your topic. A good way to grab the readerââ¬â¢s attention is by starting with an anecdote, which is connected to the topic you are writing about. Also, another way to attract attention is to quote a famous person or introduce a surprising element. But the most important thing is to clearly state your thesis in the introduction. As it comes to the body of your comparative essay, provide evidence and supporting details to prove your thesis. Use clear sentences and proper transitions. In the comparative essay transitions are of extreme importance. For example, transitions for comparison are such words as: like, by analogy, compared to, similar to, similarly, both, too, likewise, etc. Transitions for contrast are: on one hand â⬠¦on the other hand, but, though, even although, despite, unlike, yet, however, conversely, still, nevertheless, and etc. In the conclusion you have to restate your thesis, close it and prove it. Here, you can summarize the differences and similarities of the topic. At the end, proofread your essay and correct it grammatically if necessary. Make sure that your comparative essay is written in a well-organized and logical manner which is easy to read and understand.

Security and Loss Prevention - Assignment Example This would be through keeping their databases safe and ensuring that they are the only persons with the passwords or access to the most sensitive information. My plan of action would involve giving them maximum security and ensuring that no one else can access the data they have except them. I would buy for them modern machines which would detect automatically any person trying to access the information. I would implement my measures by ensuring that the organization or the company buys the machines with immediate effect. I would also take my managers for training on how to keep sensitive and confidential information that belongs to the company safe. I would ensure that the executives familiarize themselves with the systems. If the managers or the executives are unable to operate the systems, I would employ more staff to assist the and still ensure there is no fraud or loss in the company (Sennewald and Christman 2008). I would follow the formal procedures in creating the loss prevention education workshop for the corporate executives. I would ensure that all the executives attend the workshop and even the other staff in the superior levels should attend. Banking on a Beard Award Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Banking on a Beard Award - Assignment Example She will not gain from the business because the business will start making profits at the second year. Therefore, she will lose $135,000 plus the 25 percent bonus if she quits. If she considers the chances of getting promoted after the second year, then she will be losing 202,500 after getting the 50 percent pay raise. Then during the second year, she will have started getting profits from his business. Assuming that the net profit if her business is a modest success is 20 percent in the second year, then she will make a total of $40,000 during the second year. Therefore, the opportunity cost of leaving her current job will have lessened by the second year. In the third year, her profits will increase to 25 percent which means that she will get a profit of $50,000 in the third yea assuming that her business is a modest success. If she is not promoted in the three years, Jennifer will still be making earning $135,000 every year. there is also a probability that she will be terminated in the first year if she does not get the promotion which is not certain because she is competing with three other colleagues. Recommendations I would advise Jennifer to quit her current job and pursue her dream of becoming a restaurateur. This is because she has a 40 percent probability of succeeding in business compared to retaining her position. Jennifer has a 30 percent likelihood of losing her job because after the first year she will be promoted, retained in her current position or fired. Considering these options, it is better to pursue the business option. Suppose her business is a huge success and makes 20 percent profit in the first year 40 percent in the second year and 70 percent in the third year, then Jennifer will make $40,000, $80000 and $140,000 respectively for the three years. This indicates that she will have started to make an equivalent of what she is earning every year in her job. This justifies the decision to quit her job because it is not even certain wheth er she will still be holding the position by the third year. rather than wait until she is terminated in order to pursue her passion, Jennifer should do it right away because then she is not under any pressure and she has already saved for the initiative. She has an advantage in that she is a chef and has adequate experience in the trade, which raises the probability of succeeding in the business. Her move is well calculated considering that she has a target market in mind, which will include small- and medium-sized business customers in addition to their families. Her employer is also supportive and will be willing to finance her if her business plan is viable. Conclusion Jennifer should quit her position and pursue her passion to become a restaurateur because according to the decision tree and the assumptions in profits, she will be making an equivalent of her annual wages in profits in her venture. She should also be motivated to quit her position because she is not guaranteed of the job as she has a 33 percent probability of getting a termination. Decision trees are significant tools of drawing a conclusion because they assist in clarifying the issues concerned and solve the predicament. In this case, the decision tree has assisted in calculation of the profits that Jennifer is likely to make while analyzing her future in her job in order to make a decision. Jennifer should thus forfeit her position and venture into business because she has a 40 percent probabili
